CANNES, France -- Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi will head the international competition jury at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival this autumn, it was announced here on May 22.

Zhang will be the second woman ever appointed jury president, the first being fellow Chinese actress Gong Li in 2003.

Zhang appeared at a news conference here on the sidelines of the 72nd Festival de Cannes alongside Tokyo film fest Director Takeo Hisamatsu, telling reporters that she was extremely honored to lead the jury of such a large event. She added that she hoped to build connections between Japanese and Chinese filmmakers.

The veteran actress made her screen debut in director Zhang Yimou's 1999 feature "The Road Home." She has been a Cannes jury member three times.

The 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival is scheduled to run from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5, with showings set primarily for screens in the capital's Roppongi district.
