Solar panels stretch out like farm fields in this photo taken with a drone in Tomioka, Fukushima Prefecture, in May 2019. The large scale solar power plant is built on the grounds of a golf course that closed after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster caused by the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunamis. The Tomioka solar reconstruction general incorporated association has installed some 110,000 solar panels in the town. A large number installed in cooperation with 30 owners of a combined 350,000 square meters of farmland began producing electricity in March 2018. Since operations commenced last year, they have generated 10% more power than initially forecast.
