Gist of joint statement by G-20 environment, energy ministers

KARUIZAWA, Nagano (Kyodo) -- The following is the gist of a joint communique issued by the Group of 20 environment and energy ministers after their two-day meeting that ended Sunday in the Japanese town of Karuizawa.

The G-20:

-- agrees to create an international framework to reduce plastic pollution in the ocean.

-- stresses the importance of realizing a virtuous cycle of environmental protection and economic growth.

-- suggests members, excluding the United States, reaffirm their commitment to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change.

-- emphasizes the importance of preventing energy supply disruptions and facilitating stable markets.
