TOKYO -- A man in his 50s is in danger of losing his sight in one eye after a stranger poked him in the eye with an umbrella-like object near a station in Tokyo earlier this month, investigative sources have disclosed.

The incident occurred on a street near JR Meguro Station in Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward at about 8:40 p.m. on July 4. The assailant fled after the incident, and police are searching for him on suspicion of inflicting bodily injuries on the victim. The victim remains hospitalized.

The victim was on his way home from work at the time and apparently got into some sort of trouble with the assailant, investigative sources said.
