KOBE -- Hiroyuki Kada, a ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) candidate, is set to win a seat in the Hyogo Prefecture constituency in the July 21 House of Councillors election.

Kada, 49, a former Hyogo Prefectural Assembly member, ran in the election as a potential successor to Yoshitada Konoike, an LDP heavyweight who passed away in December last year.

While Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga campaigned for Mitsuo Takahashi, 42, a novice backed by Komeito, Kada, also a newcomer, managed to secure a projected win in the constituency that was fiercely contested between the ruling and opposition parties.
