The departure lobby of Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, is seen filled with crowds of people on Aug. 10, 2019. It's estimated that some 60,800 passengers will travel outbound from Japan via the airport on the 10th, the highest it has ever been in a day during the summer vacation season. Some 547,500 people are expected to leave the country from the airport in this summer's busiest period between Aug. 9 and 18, amounting to a rise of 6.2% compared to the same time last year. Narita airport operates the largest number of international flights in Japan. According to the Narita International Airport Corp. which runs the airport, the most popular destinations are Hawaii, Guam and Taiwan.
