Woman found dead in flooded house in Kyushu, disaster death toll hits 3

SAGA -- The death toll from heavy rain that struck northern Kyushu hit three after a woman was found dead in a flooded home in the western Japan prefecture of Saga on Aug. 29, police and prefectural government officials said.

At around 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, a woman in her 90s was found covered with mud in the living room on the first floor of a residence in the city of Takeo. The woman, believed to be a resident of the home, was subsequently pronounced dead, bringing the death toll in the disaster to three.

Local police are trying to confirm her identity. The home was flooded after heavy rain hit northern Kyushu, including Saga Prefecture, on Aug. 28.
