Japan Photo Journal: Mythology train

(Mainichi/Nobuhiro Yokoi)

A traditional Shinto theatrical dance from western Shimane Prefecture called "Iwami Kagura" is staged on a sightseeing train operated by West Japan Railway Co. (JR West) on Sept. 12, 2019. The dance was performed on the "Ametsuchi" train bound for Izumoshi Station in Shimane Prefecture from Tottori Station in the neighboring prefecture of Tottori in western Japan. It was part of a Shinto mythology-themed event titled "Shinwa Ressha" (mythology train), held in collaboration with Shimane Prefectural Government and JR West. Passengers clapped as a performer dressed up as Ebisu, one of the seven gods of good fortune, danced in front of them.
