People march on a street in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward on Sept. 20, 2019, as part of simultaneous worldwide demonstrations to demand that governments across the world strengthen countermeasures against global warming. About 2,800 people including university students participated in the march, which was the third of its kind. Demonstrations were planned in more than 150 countries ahead of the U.N. Climate Action Summit on Sept. 23. According to a nongovernmental organization supporting the movement, the "Global Climate Strike" -- referred to as the "Global Kiko (climate) March" in Japanese -- was carried out in 23 prefectures in Japan.
