MITO -- The boy who survived a stabbing incident which left his parents dead in Sakai, Ibaraki Prefecture, in the early hours of Sept. 23, has said he was probably assaulted by a man, according to a source related to the investigation.

Investigators at Ibaraki Prefectural Police suspect that the criminal is familiar with the area around the victims' house, because it is located in a wooded area and difficult to find at night. The suspected murderer apparently entered the property from an unlocked window on the first floor.

Police said it is possible the intruder was familiar with the structure of the house, as they are believed to have entered and then gone directly to the second floor where the couple was sleeping.

At around 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 23, Mitsunori Kobayashi, a 48-year-old company employee, and his wife, part-time worker Miwa Kobayashi, 50, were stabbed to death. Their 13-year-old son was seriously wounded and their 11-year-old second daughter sustained light injuries; their 21-year-old eldest daughter was unharmed.
