Japan Photo Journal: Pink PR

(Mainichi/Ai Kawahira)

The Niomon gate, left, the Sanju-no-to tower, rear right, and the Nishimon gate, front right, are lit up in pink at Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward on Oct. 1, 2019, to promote awareness about breast cancer. A memorial service for those who have died of the disease was held at the temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was specially opened to the public at night on the day. Members of the public can view the light-up event from outside the temple grounds from 7 to 10 p.m. every day until Oct. 31, except Oct. 19.
