First snow covers Japan's iconic Mt. Fuji

KOFU -- The first snow of the year has fallen on Japan's iconic Mount Fuji, the Kofu Local Meteorological Office announced on Oct. 22.

The first snow on the 3,776-meter mountain, Japan's tallest, was 22 days later than in an average year and 26 days later than in 2018.

The earliest recorded snowfall since official observations started in 1894 was Aug. 9 in 2008, while the latest dusting was on Oct. 26 in 2016.
