The tree-filled garden at Eikando Zenrin-ji temple is lit up in Kyoto's Sakyo Ward on Nov. 1, 2019, in preparation for special night openings starting on Nov. 6 and running until Dec. 4. About 3,000 trees including several varieties of maple -- many of them still green -- were illuminated by some 700 lights. According to the temple, the best period to see autumn tints will begin after the middle of November. The illuminated garden will open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. The fee is 600 yen for junior high students and older. During the event, visitors will also be able to see the main Amida Buddha image, a designated national important cultural property. For inquiries, call the temple on 075-761-0007 (in Japanese).
