Gardeners attach poles and ropes to trees in a conical array to prevent the branches from breaking because of heavy snow at Kenroku-en, known as one of Japan's three most beautiful gardens, in the central Japan city of Kanazawa on Nov. 1, 2019. Visitors watched the work and took pictures of the traditional technique, employed every year before the winter snows arrive. Some 800 trees in the garden will get the protective setup by mid-December. The work requires some 120 kilometers of rope weighing 4 metric tons.
