SHIRAHAMA, Wakayama -- Adventure World amusement park here in western Japan began to display a baby reticulated giraffe on Nov. 11.

The 9-year-old mother gave birth to the female on Oct. 18. The infant is now about 170 centimeters tall and weighs about 50 kilograms. The young animal, growing steadily under the gentle care of her mother, is often seen snuggling against her.

The zoo now has a total of seven reticulated giraffes in its care and it is the first time in about two years for a baby of the species to be born at the facility.
