TOKYO -- A gynecologist accused of sexually assaulting a female patient at a clinic he heads in the capital's Adachi Ward, saying she was his "type," has been arrested, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said on Jan. 23.

Police arrested Masayuki Yaoi, 55, director of Yaoi Clinic in the ward, on a charge of "forcible sexual intercourse." He is suspected to have told a patient in her 30s, "Tell me that you like me," and touched her breasts and the lower part of her body and kissed her, among other indecent acts, at the clinic at around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2019.

The physician has admitted to the allegations against him and was quoted as telling police, "She was my type."

According to the MPD's First Criminal Investigation Division, Yaoi took the patient to a private room with a bed and performed the obscene acts there. The woman was pregnant and was visiting the clinic for the fourth time that day.

The case came to light after the woman visited a nearby police box to discuss the assault immediately afterwards. The MPD is also investigating whether there are other victims, as reports of similar damage have been filed.

Yaoi Clinic operates gynecology, dermatology and other departments, according to the MPD.
