Compatriot suspected over murder of Myanmar worker in Japan

TSU, Mie -- A man believed to be of Myanmar nationality was found dead with multiple slash wounds at a company dormitory in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, on Feb. 17, and police suspect he may have been killed by another man from the same country.

According to Mie Prefectural Police, officers were dispatched to a dormitory for painting company workers in the central Japan city after an emergency call was made at about 7:25 a.m. The caller reportedly stated that they had heard from someone that two men from Myanmar had been arguing, and that one of them had been stabbed. The deceased was found in a dormitory room with multiple slashes to his back and other parts of his body.

Police reported that the suspected perpetrator was holding a knife when he fled the scene.

Authorities are working to identify the victim, who appears to be the suspect's colleague.
