Princess Aiko passes exam to enter Gakushuin University, Emperor's alma mater

TOKYO -- Princess Aiko, 18, the only child of Japan's Emperor and Empress, will enter Gakushuin University's Faculty of Letters to study Japanese literature from April, the Imperial Household Agency has announced.

The princess will study in the faculty's Department of Japanese Language and Literature. Her father Emperor Naruhito studied at the same institution and faculty. Princess Aiko, who is currently a third-year student at Gakushuin Girls' Junior and Senior High School, passed the examination for entrance by recommendation.

The princess took tests to fulfill the requirements for entrance by recommendation in September 2019 and in January this year. She is now said to be engaged in putting together her graduation essay.
