Tokyo marks new daily high of 97 coronavirus infections

TOKYO -- A total of 97 more cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed in the Japanese capital on April 2, Tokyo Metropolitan Government sources have told the Mainichi Shimbun.

    The new cases mark a single-day high for Tokyo, which has more confirmed cases than any other local jurisdiction in the country.

    A total of around 35 of the cases are said to have originated from Eiju General Hospital in the capital's Taito Ward, where 106 staff members and patients have been infected, and Keio University Hospital in Shinjuku Ward, where infections of eight related individuals had been confirmed.
