Japan Photo Journal: Pink and pinker

(Mainichi/Takashi Seido)

Azaleas, foreground, and sakura blossoms are seen together on Mount Inari in the city of Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, on April 6, 2020. Azalea trees, which number at least around 1,000 on the mountain, began to bloom earlier than usual in the beginning of April, while the cherry trees have managed to hold onto their blossoms this year, creating the beautiful sight of the contrasting shades of pink. Local residents were seen taking in the flowers, with one commenting, "I don't see this kind of scene very often."
