East Japan pref. confirms its first coronavirus cluster at Utsunomiya hostess club

UTSUNOMIYA -- A five-person cluster of new coronavirus infections has been confirmed at a hostess club in this eastern Japan city, municipal and Tochigi prefectural officials announced on June 28.

The five are all employees at the Club Eight bar, where three other coronavirus cases had already been identified among its staff. The cluster is the first to be confirmed in Tochigi Prefecture north of Tokyo.

According to the prefecture and other sources, the eight total cases are those aged from their teens to their 30s. It was confirmed on June 27 and 28 that they had coronavirus, and they are thought to have caught the virus after a customer from outside the prefecture visited the club on June 22. The customer was confirmed to have the virus after their visit to the club. The other employees and their family members are now also being tested.
