TOKYO -- Former Yokozuna Asashoryu announced he is getting married on his personal Twitter account on July 16.
Mongolia native Asashoryu, whose real name is Dolgorsurengiin Dagvadorj, attained the highest sumo rank of yokozuna in Japan in 2003. In his tweet, he wrote, "I'm getting married. Best," and uploaded a photo of him and a woman thought to be his fiancee standing out on a plain. His fans left comments congratulating them on the union.
In 2002, Asashoryu married a woman he had known since they were at junior high school together. The reception, held in Tokyo in the summer of 2004, was even broadcast live on television, but the marriage ended in divorce in 2009.
