Japan Photo Journal: Rejoicing and reconnected

(Mainichi/Kaho Kitayama)

A Hakone-Tozan Railway train is seen welcomed by locals in the town of Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, on July 23, 2020, as the line resumed full operations after about a 9-month closure due to heavy damage caused by Typhoo Hagibis in October 2019. A special train to mark the reopening departed from the town's Hakone-Yumoto Station shortly before 10 a.m. on the day. When the train was approaching Gora Station, about 100 people including workers at accommodation facilities in the hot spring resort cheered while holding banners.
