TOKYO -- A total of 195 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in Japan's capital on Sept. 24, the metropolitan government announced.
The new infections came after Tokyo saw 59 cases on Sept. 23, and marked the first time the total had topped 100 in four days. Tokyo's daily average for the first week of September stood at 147.4, and climbed to 176.3 for the second week of the month. In the third week, the daily average dipped slightly to 174.7.
Tokyo has registered more than 24,000 infections of the new virus altogether -- the highest level among Japan's 47 prefectures. There were 28 patients in Tokyo hospitalized with severe COVID-19 symptoms as of Sept. 23.
