Japan's capital sees 212 new coronavirus cases on Sept. 29

TOKYO -- Japan's capital registered a total of 212 new coronavirus cases on Sept. 29, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced.

    It was the first time in three days for the daily total in the capital to rise above 200. Tokyo reported 78 infections on Sept. 28, and 144 the day before.

    The daily average of new cases in the capital for the first week of September stood at 147.4, rising to 176.3 for the second week of the month. In the third week, the daily average dipped slightly to 174.7, then fell further in the fourth week to 147.0.

    Tokyo has recorded more than 25,000 cases in total, more than any other of the nation's 47 prefectures. There were 26 patients in Tokyo hospitalized with severe COVID-19 symptoms as of Sept. 28.
