TOKYO -- Japan's capital saw 139 more coronavirus infections on Oct. 20, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced.
Tokyo recorded 78 positive tests results on Oct. 19, a Monday. Reported case numbers typically dip on Mondays following low testing figures over the weekend, especially on Sundays.
Tokyo saw 4,921 cases of the coronavirus in September, or an average of about 164 per day, and a monthly high of 8,126 new infections in August. An average of 161.6 infections per day were recorded in the capital in the first week of October, rising to 181 in the second.
Tokyo has marked over 29,000 infections in total, the most among Japan's 47 prefectures. There were 24 patients hospitalized in Tokyo with severe COVID-19 symptoms as of Oct. 19.
