TOKYO -- Japan's capital registered a total of 186 more coronavirus infections on Oct. 23, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced.
The new infections followed the metropolitan government's announcement of 185 new cases on Oct. 22.
Tokyo saw 4,921 cases of the coronavirus in September, or an average of about 164 per day, and a monthly high of 8,126 new infections in August. An average of 161.6 infections per day were recorded in the capital in the first week of October, rising to 181 in the second. The daily average in the third week was down to 171.7 new cases.
Tokyo has marked over 29,000 infections in total, more than any of Japan's 46 other prefectures. There were 24 patients hospitalized in Tokyo with severe COVID-19 symptoms as of Oct. 22.
