Japan Photo Journal: Swan lit up in front of Tokyo Station to spread message of hope

(Mainichi/Yuki Miyatake)

A pair wearing masks are seen taking a photo on Dec. 12, 2020, in front of a vast screen showing an illuminated swan, which is a symbol to applaud the efforts of health care workers amid the coronavirus pandemic -- one of the objects on display at the "Tokyo Michiterasu 2020" event being held in the capital's Marunouchi district. The swan display is lit up in blue at the square in front of Tokyo Station, and its body is made up of words of appreciation and encouragement to health care professionals, such as " Tokyo Michiterasu 2020 opens up the future, shines a light of hope." The illumination event is held daily between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., and will continue until Dec. 25.
