YOKOHAMA -- A specialty store selling more than 250 kinds of face masks has opened at a shopping and entertainment complex in this city south of Tokyo for a limited time.
The "Tokyo Mask Land" shop is in operation at the "Asobuild" complex in Yokohama's Nishi Ward until Dec. 30. Its concept is to focus on masks as fashion accessories. The organizers designed new masks using about 100 kinds of patterns and color combinations for the pop-up store. Customers can coordinate their outfits with the colors and patterns that suit them from the huge variety of masks on offer.
Some of the products are made from materials unusual for masks, such as traditional Japanese paper. The "Mask Decoration Corner" requires reservations and visitors can make original masks using photos taken with their smartphones.
