Snowbound Hokkaido univ. cancels uniform entrance exams for whole day in Japan 1st

A university entrance exam venue in the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido was forced to cancel tests on Jan. 16 due to snow, the school announced on its website, affecting 73 would-be test takers.

    Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuen University in the city of Wakkanai called off the first-day session of the new standardized college entrance exams which were scheduled for Jan. 16 and 17. The exams are being held at campuses nationwide this weekend amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    According to the National Center for University Entrance Examinations, a makeup exam at the Wakkanai campus is slated for Jan. 30. The second-day tests on Jan. 17 will be held as scheduled.

    It is the first time in Japan for a venue to cancel the unified entrance exams for a whole day and arrange a retest.
