Japan ruling party politician Nobuteru Ishihara infected with coronavirus

TOKYO -- Japanese politician Nobuteru Ishihara, former secretary-general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has been infected with the coronavirus, his office announced on Jan. 22.
Ishihara, a former minister of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism, and former environment minister, heads the 11-member Ishihara faction in the LDP. It is the first time the infection of a faction leader with the coronavirus has come to light.
