ATHENS (Kyodo) -- Former Japan international midfielder Shinji Kagawa has joined PAOK, the Greek Super League club announced Wednesday.

The 31-year-old Kagawa played for Japan at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. He scored 31 goals in 97 games for the Samurai Blue. Kagawa turned pro with Cerezo Osaka but since 2010 has spent the bulk of his career overseas with Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.

He has had spells with Manchester United and Turkish club Besiktas. In the summer of 2019, he joined Real Zaragoza in Spain's second division, but has been looking for a new team since October.

PAOK, three-time Greek champions, are based in the northern city of Thessaloniki.
