Osaka Pref. hits new single-day coronavirus infection high of 666 on April 3

OSAKA -- Osaka Prefecture reported a single-day high of 666 coronavirus infections on April 3, breaking its previous record of 654 recorded Jan. 8 this year, during the pandemic's third wave in Japan.
April 3 was the third day in a row that the new case count topped 600 in the western Japan prefecture. It was also the fifth consecutive day for it to outstrip Tokyo, which announced 446 new infections on the same date.
The prefecture also reported two more COVID-19 deaths on the same day.
