Japan's Foreign Ministry press secretary tests positive for coronavirus

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Foreign Ministry press secretary has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the ministry said Monday, adding none of its other officials had been in close contact with him.

    Tomoyuki Yoshida, director general for press and public relations, took a test Friday after losing his sense of taste and developing a fever. He received the test result on Sunday and is in a stable condition, according to the ministry.

    He held a regular press conference on Wednesday, the same day he developed a fever. He wore a facemask and maintained a distance from reporters, the ministry said.
