Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers are seen on the night of April 23 patrolling the Japanese capital's Kabukicho nightlife district as part of efforts by the MPD and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to ensure eateries are adopting thorough coronavirus prevention measures, and to warn against burglaries at businesses unsupervised due to shortened business hour requests. At just past 6 p.m., two metro government employees entered an izakaya Japanese pub to inspect its plastic barriers, alcohol disinfectant provisions, ventilation and other measures. Because the space between seats at tables was narrow, staff asked the owner to "create an appropriate space between them." They responded, "When (customers) sit down, I'll have them spread out."
