FUKUOKA -- Uber Japan Co. launched a taxi service on May 18 offering free rides for older people's trips to and from COVID-19 vaccination venues in 11 cities including southwest Japan's Fukuoka, limited to amounts of up to 2,000 yen (about $18.37) per one-way ride.

People will be able to use the service for two round trips (a total of four rides) between their homes and vaccination sites. The service will continue until Sept. 30.

Use of the service is dependent on registry with the app, where users can then follow directions to enter the promotional code "10MVJPP." The company is prepared to cover 20,000 rides total, and will end the promotion when the limit is reached. Family members or other representatives of eligible passengers will also be allowed to call for the rides.
