Lingering snow which appears to be in the shape of a bird is seen on the face of Mount Fuji from the Yamanashi Prefecture city of Fujiyoshida, west of Tokyo, on May 20, 2021. Known locally as the "agricultural bird," it has announced rice-planting season to farmers since before the development of weather information services. The shape, located between the seventh and eighth stations of Japan's iconic mountain, usually forms between late April and May and is visible from the Yamanashi side. The Fujiyoshida Municipal Government officially announced the agricultural bird's appearance on May 18, four days later than in 2020.
