TOKYO -- Japan's first suspected domestic case of the C.36 coronavirus variant, which had previously not been confirmed outside of airport quarantine, has been detected in a sample in Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's monitoring meeting heard on June 4.
According to the metropolitan government, the C.36 variant has been confirmed in 34 countries including the U.K. and the United States, but its actual characteristics are not yet understood. The metropolitan government is working with the Japanese government to analyze it.
