TOKYO -- A demonstration was held in suburban Tokyo on June 6 to cancel a plan to livestream the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics at popular Inokashira Park.

About 90 people participated in the march around the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's park located across the capital's suburban cities of Mitaka and Musashino. Participants raised placards stating, "Don't set up a 'live site' in Inokashira Park," and urged that the games be canceled altogether. Mayako Tsurumine, a 53-year-old home caregiver living in Mitaka, who organized the demonstration, said, "It's strange to set up a livestreaming site where people gather at a time when coronavirus infections are spreading."

The Musashino Municipal Government submitted a letter to request the cancelation of the live site to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on June 4, while the Mitaka Municipal Government also sent a letter seeking thorough measures against COVID-19 infections.
