Japan Photo Journal: 6,000 iris flowers in full bloom at Tokyo garden

(Mainichi/Natsuki Nishi)

Iris flowers are seen in full bloom at Horikiri Shobu-en (Iris Garden) in Tokyo's Katsushika Ward on June 12, 2021. Six-thousand iris plants consisting of some 200 varieties, including Kumo-isho (literally "cloud costume") and Goko-no-asobi (literally "playing in five lakes"), are planted in the approximately 8,700-square-meter garden. The first iris flower at the garden blossomed on May 8 this season, about 10 days earlier than a typical year. The flowers are most spectacular until around June 20. Admission to the garden is free.
