Japan reports another record-high severe COVID-19 case count

TOKYO -- Japan hit a record-high 1,478 severe COVID-19 cases on Aug. 12, the health ministry reported Aug. 13.

    The count rose 74 from the day before, exceeding the previous record of 1,413 set on May 25 this year. The number of coronavirus patients with severe symptoms has been rising since late July.
