TOKYO -- Three of the nine members of popular J-pop idol group Snow Man have contracted the coronavirus, Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates Inc. announced on Jan. 20.

Of the group's members, Raul, 18, Koji Mukai, 27, and Ryota Miyadate, 28, were infected, the agency said through its official website.

According to the site, since Raul developed a sore throat and Mukai felt a sense of fatigue on Jan. 19, PCR tests were conducted, and the results came back positive. Other members were also tested, and Miyadate was confirmed infected with the coronavirus on Jan. 20. Medical treatment and follow-up examinations will be conducted for a certain period of time. A livestreaming event that had been scheduled for the evening of Jan. 21 will be postponed.

Snow Man was scheduled to participate in 2020's "Kohaku Uta Gassen" (Red and white song battle), an annual music show broadcast on New Year's Eve by public broadcaster NHK, but withdrew just before the event as Miyadate contracted the coronavirus. The all-male pop band made its first appearance in the program in 2021.
