Numerous carp streamers are seen above the Tsuruuda River in the east Japan city of Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, on April 26 ahead of Children's Day on May 5. The Tatebayashi Koinobori Carp Streamer Village Festival with some 4,000 streamers, which are typically flown around Children's Day, is being held for the first time in two years and continues until May 15. According to the city's tourism association, the festival was suspended halfway through the event in 2020 and canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the festival's main venue, the Tsuruuda River, carp streamers reflect on the water's surface, and many people take photos at the site with their smartphones. Meanwhile, the illumination of the streamers at night has been canceled as a measure to prevent the spread of infections.
