HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) -- Yuki Koike, who made his Olympic debut in Tokyo last summer, won the men's 100 meters at the Oda Memorial athletics meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, in rainy Hiroshima on Friday.
Koike clocked 10.49 seconds in the 100 final into a strong headwind of 3.3 meters per second, while reigning national champion Shuhei Tada and national runner-up Dede Bruno failed to qualify for the "A" final at Edion Stadium Hiroshima.
Elsewhere, Midori Mikase won the women's 100 meters, and Reimi Yoshimura won the women's 3,000 steeplechase. Rachid Muratake won the men's 110m hurdles in the absence of national record holder Shunsuke Izumiya, who withdrew from the final due to ankle discomfort.
The one-day event doubles as a qualifier for September's Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China.
