Russia has returned a backpack that belonged to a victim of last month's fatal Hokkaido tour boat sinking, Japan's 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters announced on May 18.

The Kazu I tour boat sank off eastern Hokkaido's Shiretoko Peninsula on April 23, and Russian authorities reported to their Japanese counterparts on April 28 that they had retrieved a backpack containing a bank card with the name of a victim of the accident.

The backpack was reportedly handed over to the Consulate-General of Japan in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, on May 18. It will be sent to Japan later.
