Opposition party leader Taro Yamamoto to run for upper house from Tokyo district

TOKYO -- Taro Yamamoto, leader of the minor opposition party Reiwa Shinsengumi, said on May 20 that he will run in the House of Councillors election this summer from the Tokyo constituency.

    Yamamoto, 47, made the announcement in a news conference in the capital. In the Tokyo electoral district, six seats will be up for grabs.

    Reiwa Shinsengumi earlier announced that Karen Yoda would run for the party from the Tokyo constituency. Yoda will instead aim to win a seat in under the proportional representation system.
