TOKYO -- Eneos Corp. of Yokohama beat defending champion Tokyo Gas Co. representing the Japanese capital 5-4 to claim victory in the 93rd Intercity Baseball Tournament final held at Tokyo Dome on July 29.

Yokohama's first championship in nine years upped its record-holding total to 12.

In the tournament's closing ceremony, the 'black lion' champion's banner was presented to Yokohama's captain Ryo Kawaguchi, 25, by The Mainichi Newspapers Co., which sponsored the event with the Japan Amateur Baseball Association.

The Mainichi Newspapers President Ken Matsuki said in his closing speech, "We held the tournament without limiting spectator numbers by taking (coronavirus) countermeasures. Seeing unique cheers and fans in uniforms filling the stands, I realized that the intercity tournament has returned."
