Wild boar roaming central Kyoto injures woman

KYOTO -- A wild boar appeared in a residential area here on the morning of Aug. 26 and injured a woman before being captured an hour later.
The boar was spotted in a residential area near Keihan Jingu-marutamachi Station in Kyoto's Sakyo Ward around 9:30 a.m. According to Kyoto Prefectural Police, a woman in her 60s who was passing by sustained minor injuries when the animal pulled on her clothes and she fell over. The animal also broke a window in a nearby building.
About an hour later, the boar was captured by officers from Nakagyo Police Station and city officials in a busy area near the Kyoto Municipal Subway's Karasuma Oike Station in Nakagyo Ward, about 1.5 kilometers away.
According to the city and prefectural police, the boar was about 1 meter long and lunged at them when they caught it in a net.
The city says this is the first time this year that a wild boar has been spotted in central Kyoto. In the event of an encounter, officials are urging people not to approach the animals and to contact the city or police.
