UK's Dyson to move head office to Singapore
LONDON (AP) -- British company Dyson announced on Jan. 22 that it is moving its head office from England to Singapore.
The appliance manufacturer, famous for its bagless vacuum cleaners and no-blade fan, is accused of hypocrisy by Brexit opponents as the company's founder and chairman James Dyson is known as a famous Brexit campaigner.
The firm said it was making the move because of the growing importance of the Asian market, rather than because of Britain's impending exit from the EU.
British lawmakers threw out Prime Minister Theresa May's EU divorce deal on Jan. 15, and attempts to come up with a new plan are gridlocked. Most U.K. businesses fear a "no-deal" exit will cause economic chaos by tossing the trade rules and imposing tariffs and other barriers between the U.K. and the EU, its biggest trading partner.
