Summer time and thunder
We've never experienced heat like this in Kurohime, northern Nagano. My house is at an altitude of around 700 metres. From my study I can see the little Torii River, less than 20 metres away. On warm or hot days, I keep the window open to enjoy the slight breeze and the cooling, rushing sound of the river. From any window of my house or of the buildings housing my gym and study, I see trees. From spring to early autumn, when the sun is shining, light shimmers greenly through the trees. In winter, after the leaves have fallen, I can see the looming shape of Mount Kurohime beyond the Torii River. From any of our windows, there is nothing ugly to see. Apart from the sounds of the river, birds, cicadas, crickets, frogs, or sometimes the bark of a fox, we only hear the passing, or arrival, of the occasional motor vehicle.
